Thanks to the Hazare movement

Reported on September 16, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #31505

I was buying an Apartment. I had read in this website some advice as to how to avoid paying a bribe. One of the recommendations was not to take a lawyer with you - as the lawyer is a repeat customer to the Sub-Registrar office whereas you are not. Going by that logic, I did not take a lawyer. A person from my lawyer's office helped me with a few forms. The Seller's lawyer helped me with the rest of the paperwork. When the Sub-registrar saw the seller's lawyer, she called him in to discuss the "price". However, he politely told her that he was representing the seller and not the buyer - and the buyer did not have a lawyer. When most of teh work was done, she called me inside and said "You can pay us what ever you feel like". I told her that I was a volunteer for the "India against Corruption" movement and had taken a considerable time off during the recent ********** Hazare Movement. I also showed her stickers of the Fight against Corruption which a friend of mine had made. She immediately backed off and said that she would still do her duty, but was just asking.

I think she took this soft stance because all the government offices are scared after the recent ********** Hazare movement.
