ADR 33/74 dated 1.4.1974 - Mahim Police Station

I had lodged a claim for the dead body of my father ******* ************* whose body was found at Mahim and a ADR had been registered by the Mahim Police Station vide ADR No.33/74 dated 1.4.1974. I had approached the police station several times over the years to get a copy of the ADR (Accidental Death Report) to enable me to regularise the death and obtain a Death Certificate from the BMC. However, I have not been successful in getting the same. The records in the BMC shows the name of the deceased as UNKNOWN. Please guide me how to go about this. I know it is quite an old matter but would appreciate your guidance.

The issue raised reported by you is old and you haven’t indicated the date on which you have approached the police station for obtaining the copy of the accidental death report. If the death of your father was due to accident, suicide, killing by animal or machinery etc. as delineated under Section 174 of Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, an inquest ought to have been conducted under the same section by an Executive Magistrate upon the information received from officer in charge of a police station or some other police officer empowered by the State Government in that behalf. Your report doesn’t disclose if any inquest was held in the year 1974. It is surmised that due to absence of any inquest and swift action by your relatives, the records in the BMC show the deceased as unknown. Since you know that the accidental death has been registered by Mahim police station vide ADR no. 33/74 dated 1-04-1974, you can apply for copy of the report under Right Information Act. Alternatively, you should get in touch with senior police officers for issuing directions to Mahim Police Station
