Big Amount Gifts Running in Bangalore Hospitals, Pharma companies give Cash, cheque, Gifts to prescribe costly medicine

I am seeing a lot of Pharma companies are paying doctors and gifting them with high end gifts to make them prescribe their medicine. More over, a very new high end Testing Lab which has come up in ********** area is passing on about 40% commission to doctors who write MRI tests.

These doctors also do the same for the sake of Money.

What is your reaction after reading this report?

The issue relating to gifting of doctors in private hospital by drug companies will not come under the ambit of Prevention of Corruption Act. As of now, provisions of the Prevention of corruption Act are applicable to only public servants as defined in the Act. The question is, therefore, of moral than legal in nature. Such practices are galore everywhere. One solution could be establishment of independent regulatory authority for health institutions and / or appointment of ombudsman to adjudicate such complaints from the affected public. The other is to lodge complaint with District Consumer Forum seeking remedy for deficiency in service.
