I've got my Re-Issued passport with verification to my address but

I've got my Re-Issued passport with verification to my address but now I've received a call from nearby police station (Vijayanagar 2nd stage) saying I've to pay 300/- for doing the verification. Should I pay for it or not? I'm not aware of how this process works..
