Surgeon with a Begging Bowl for Bribe!!

Reported on June 8, 2012 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #33563

Just a month back, my dad had health problems. so we through several tests which led finally to a surgeon who fixed operation in a nearby well known hospital in Bangalore. The hospital people were very cooperative. Hospital bill came to one lakh rupees. we paid the bill. In the meanwhile, on the last day of discharge, the surgeon came to us, called us to a corner of the ward and said he wants cash of Rs. 20 thousand., and i can pay it in cash that day or within 15 days when we go to him for post operation dressing. We told him that we have already cleared the Hospital bill and they have already taken all the charges right from medicine to check up to surgery to ward charges to OT charges to Surgeon charges etc and there is nothing more left out. But the doctor says - this is over and above the hospital bill. Telling this, he went off saying he is going out of country on a holiday for 10 days. After two weeks, there was a call to our house asking us to come for the checkup. In the meanwhile, I had spoken with the administrator of the hospital about surgeon's demand. They told me that nothing of such amount is there and we need not pay anybody. I had also decided that i will not pay even a single rupee to the surgeon. But, my parents got upset on my decision because this was a sensitive topic related to health. Finally the surgeon successfully and shamelessly collected the 20 thousand from us in our next visit for dressing. He is a cancer treatment doctor. But friends, I tell you - people like him are Cancerous to our society., and we need to remove such people from treating anybody. They misuse our condition when we are mentally down on the health of our beloved ones. Now i relate back - one day he had a call from someone - and he was replying -"3 patients? ok. fix it. But one condition. Only cash. 25 each." Now I understand what he really meant. How do we tackle such issues?
