Bribe is more unavoidable for Australia driving license!
I have obtained driving license both in USA and India without going through any driving school or middleman. In Australia (supposedly less corrupt), especially if you are an immigrant, the examiner will almost always fail you until you come back for the test through a driving instructor. Just like the touts and shady driving schools in India, these schools make a lot of money out of helpless drivers who need a license.
