An efficient ministry
When I learned that I needed to get an Apostille stamp from the Ministry of External Affairs in Chennai, I expected the worst – dirty office, corrupt staff, bribes and long delays.
What I found was the opposite. The Ministry of External Affairs in Chennai has an office in a simple building. Arriving on the correct floor, you find signs pointing you to the correct office and information on what you will need there (no. of photocopies, opening times etc.). The office itself is clean, well organised and calm. The staff are systematic and helpful.
My case was urgent so they agreed to do the process in the shortest possible time. When technically difficulties delayed the process, they called me to inform me of so! When was the last time a government office called you to inform you that they are running late so that you avoid the inconvenience of coming to the office!! They gave me the next best time, and delivered on their commitment. It was an extremely positive, and **********-instilling experience.
India can be different. The government can be clean.
Let's hope that other departments take the lead from the Ministry of External Affairs. A big thank you to the people at the office who were so kind to me.
