Inefficient RPO, Excellent CID

Reported on June 6, 2011 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #33056

I was trying to reissue my passport on Tatkal. After almost 10 visits to the passport office and after finding numerous faults with my Tatkal Verification letter (contradictory/incomplete information on the RPO website) I was finally told that the time period to convert to Tatkal had expired (2 weeks). Nowhere is this information listed and not once during the multiple times of turning me away from the counter did they mention this.
Finally, I was advised through a Junior clerical contact at the RPO office to pursue the Police Verification route. Local police officer tried to get me to give his wife an interview in my company (eventually the wife was not interested) but after that the local clerk at the Dindoshi station was VERY HONEST - refused a bribe and even kept in touch with me over the phone over expediting the file to the CID office. At the CID office, after waiting several hours to see the main Inspector, he was also most accommodating and agreed to send my Verification to the RPO by the very next day. True to their word, the police verification took less than a week! I was amazed that the police turned out to be the most honest & efficient link in this bureaucratic **********.
Would not say the passport office is corrupt, but was disappointed at their callousness & lack of information.
