The Mahim police station was surprisingly honest
I've heard horror stories about how police official ask for bribes during the police verification process, but i did not have any such experience at Mahim Police station, and the renewed passport reached my doorstep within a month.
PS: 5 years back, however, I had been asked by an official in the same station for a bribe. I could not pay since i was a student with an empty wallet. So i was allowed to leave (after being made to wait for about 45 minutes). I got the passport then too.
