800 Rs. for getting away with customs at Mumbai Airport
Landed into the International Arrivals with connecting flight only 1 hour from the Domestic Departures Terminal. Inernal bus service for passenger transfer to Domestic terminal was in 30 minutes, and the last one to make it to the flight. Worse, baggage arrived late, 15 minutes to board the bus and a long queue at customs. A staff member approached, saw the LHR tag on baggage and asked for 20 pounds to get away with customs. He convinced me that I would not make it to my flight in time if I missed the next bus! I bargained to 10 pounds. I could see people joining and waiting in the customs queue, and I with the staff member walked the other side, no body questioning us, people watching. Then he met a Policeman who stamped my customs slip and asked to go ahead. I paid the staff member 10 pounds (god knows how many people had their stake in it as many police staff, airport staff saw me getting away with this with the staff member).
