A digit mistake in my passport no while registering

Im a student from Lanka had spent all my deeds to study further in banglore India. I had to stay near stops n rooms which are cheap and eat less to save money. Having said I had come to FRRO office for registering my visit n happened to find myself in trouble as I made a mistake while updating my passport details, as I was too conscious n missed it by an inch of time. While I visited the office on the day of my appointment I was asked by the concerned stakeholder to pay 1800 Indian rupees for making a correction on the form. I personally did give her an apology note n described my situation but there seems to be no purpose and stature. I did pay them as I want my dreams to come true. I know it's wrong but there was none to listen nor help. Now my situation to survive for next 1 month here will be disgraceful as I had to cut 2 times meals n walk for 3 kms daily instead taking a bus to cut cost. I want to win n study hard was my motive n don't know paying 1800 would help them to achieve their goals but it will help me to stay in India for my studies and then serve my county.
