This incident happened during my time at college in Patna. I had applied for a passport and needed to get my background check done by the police for the same. When I went to the Bihar Veterinary College Police Station (which is just behind my college Birla Institute of Technology Patna), they demanded a bribe of Rs. 600 and shamelessly said that it was the standard rate and that I could ask anyone from my college what they had to pay for background verification. He told me that it would be better to pay the bribe to get the verification done quickly otherwise it would take a long time as I was not a local. As I could not afford a delay in getting the passport, I paid the bribe.
