Bribe to get the Liquor License for the hotel
- Customs, Excise and Service Tax
- Excise Registration
- Paid INR 2,50,000
Well, it is a well known fact that these days you cannot manage a single NOC/Permissions/Licenses required to put up a hotel. Every department be it Municipal Corporation's Health/Food and Drugs, Police, State Excise (altogether more than 40 licenses are required to operate a hotel) is corrupted as a RIGHT. It is no more hidded or an hush hush affair, it is open, it is known and well accepted. The SP state excise, tells me that he had to bid for this posting hence, he had to recover that amount and also have enough for bidding for the next posting. He confirms that the amount collected in bribes is well distributed right to the top, in this case Principal Secretary. I have personally paid 2.5 lacs (negotiated) over and above the 3 lacs (legal Fee for a FL III license) fee. This amount was paid OVER the table to the SP state excise, besides showering many other gifts and favours (Diwali Gold Coin, complimentary son's birthday party, free stay in the hotel rooms for guests on and off, senior officials son's wedding - fully taken care off etc. etc. etc.).
The question is - "Is it only the common man who knows about the existing corruption in the country, the people responsible for governing the country do not know about it". In my opinion, the corruption has to be routed out at the Corporation level first of all. It should be a civic body with no affiliation with the political parties. Let it be managed and run like any other Corporate House with total accountability. Hoping for the hope.
