This was a long long time ago. This was actuall We had 4 passports in the family for renewal. A certain officer came home for police verification and blatantly asked for rs.500 per passport bribe to confirm the verification. My father negotiated and was able to settle the "deal" at Rs.250 per passport. During that time, parting with Rs.1000 for a middle class employee with a humble income. I am sure they still ask for bribes at the time of verification...
