Bribed the peon to get a chance to bribe the officer

Reported on March 8, 2012 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #2689

It was my birth certificate which had to get attested by the home department of Karnataka situated at Vidhana Soudha at Bangalore. That was the first time I realized that the power house of the state is also the bribery house of the state. I couldn't imagine how such a beautiful, monumental building built by Mr.Kengal Hanumanthayya is turned into a fountain head of Corruption today. I just had to move my file from one officer's table to the other's and ironically the file can only be moved by those shameless hands, possessed by some peons, which deserve to be cut into pieces and thrown to hungry dogs.I had to bribe him and bribing has become so casual that it is almost like "fees with no receipt". If I had not given the "fees", the peon would have made me wait like a hungry dog for my own certificate. After receiving the "fees", the peon took me to his superior for final signature and to my surprise the way of accepting the bribe from the supervisor was something different. He took my file, opened the document, held pen in his hand and asked couple of questions. Meanwhile, the peon opened a book and signaled to me that I have to put some notes there. And the book of 100 pages already had become a book of 200 pages with the bank notes. I put in a note of Rs.100 which was not enough for the officer to put the signature. So I put one more note of Rs.100 and as I did this the pen in the supervisor's hand automatically started signing on the document. What a shameful moment!!
I really felt so much ashamed to have got my certificate attested like this and felt disgusting about the system that I am forced into.
