Bribery at Police station
- Police
- Police Verification for Passport
- Paid INR 100
This is a quite old story but nonetheless I feel it is necessary to expose the corrupt officials in every corner of India.
I am from a small town karad, Dist-satara, State-maharashtra. I finished my graduation in 2000 and applied for a passport. Eventually it came for verifiaction at the local police station and to my surprise I received a call from the police station about it. So off I went to the police station. The constable started writing the statement for me. While writing he asked whether I knwo their 'rates' which I thought it would be around 50 bucks!! It turned that they charge 100 for students and 200 for adults. So he opened his drawer and I put the money myself.
The legal requirement was that an applicant should go in front of the Superitendent and he will then sign your applicatio but with money in his pocket there was no need for all that hassel.
