Customs officer, Mr.Tiwari and Mr.Patel
I (last name Patel) went to India during July 2005 with my wife and my two kids from USA. Having toal of eight bags, after screening of luggage, I was approached by custom officer Mr.Patel and was asked 1000/-US$ (one thousand dollars). I tried to convince him by opening and showing each and every bag and proving that I don't have duty payable goods. Also, tried to convince him that being a Patel why don't you do me a favour!
Eventually, he sent another custom officer Mr.Tiwari and we went to through similar cycle again. My kids (5 and 7 years) were exhausted after first internation and very long journey, and Tiwari kept us waiting until 6AM and very few passengers were left. Eventually, I had to pay finally 300/- US$ (three hundred US dollars), to Mr.Tiwari and he may have shared with Mr.Patel and/or other officers.
