Drivers License on Sale

Reported on April 13, 2011 from Thiruvananthapuram , Kerala  ι Report #9260

I paid bribe to get a license which I would have got anyway. In Trivandrum the rule to get a 2 wheeler license is to make the number '8' using the vehicle. So as a new driver I practised a lot to get the '8' correct with the rules and within the permissible boundaries.

After this there is a road test where the RTO officer sits in an Ambassador car around quarter kilometer away. The driver starts the 2-wheeler and goes close to the car stops and looks at the officer.

The officer does not look at the driver nor at the driving. The RTO officer only looks at how much money he has received. The whole test is just a time-waste as there are people who do not even give the '8' test. It depends how much you pay the officer. The more you pay the less of a test.

I must say that in 2000 a minimum presence was required. A person cannot get the license sitting at home! I paid bribe because my friends did not get it in the first go and I was convinced that it was the best and fastest way. I am 101% sure I would have made it otherwise too but I was foolish. I paid Rs 400/- for nothing.
