Recently a drive has been launched to re-verify all the documents pertaining to LPG Gas connections. In this case my cousin had lost his documents and the gas agency mentioned they will not issue a fresh one unless a copy of FIR about loosing these documents was submitted with them. When he went to file an FIR, the constable pointed out that an affidavit on stamp paper is required and asked to arrange for same. When he was about to leave for getting the affidavit someone nearby mentioned that if you wish it can be arranged here in the police station, but comes with a cost else the constable would find some other issue. He was then made to pay Rs 125, where upon the FIR was immediately registered. This is a very common occurring. Even for FIR of lost mobile phones, sim cards police charges Rs 125 from every person. The cost of an FIR is decided by the gravity of the incident.
