FIR Filing

Reported on March 29, 2012 from Tirupati , Andhra Pradesh  ι Report #2043

My bag containing Laptop, Passport, etc was stolen in the early hours (4am) from KSRTC Volvo bus that travelled from Bangalore to Tirupati. I went to the police helpdesk located on the bus station platform, the constable took my personal details and asked me to go to the nearby police station and lodge the complaint. On reaching the local police station, I received all kind of advice to take care of personal belonging. When requested for lodging FIR for the theft, the constable on duty told it shoud be done in the present of SI (Crime) and asked me to come during the day. Meanwhile, I left for the God's ********** and returned in the afternoon at around 03pm, the same constable was available on duty. He informed that the concerned SI has not come to the station during the day and asked me to come later. As I need to return back to Bangalore on the same night, requested the constable to lodge FIR and provide me the copy for re-applying the passport and claim insurance for the lost items. Then, he started negotiating for the amount starting from 5000/-. There was no option for me except to pay the money. Finally, agreed for 2000/- and I got the FIR copy.
There should be guidelines and contact numbers in the police station for common man's help. So that we can reach to the concerned and get the work done legally.
