FIR @ Rs. 25 only

Reported on January 15, 2011 from Kanpur , Uttar Pradesh  ι Report #28856

I think this is the cheapest FIR a common individual can get in a Indian city. I lost my wallet which had my PNB debit card. I got my card canceled immediately but there was a tough thing to do, lodge a F.I.R for the lost/stolen debit card. I went to the Kidwai Nagar police station to submit a printed hard copy of the application. But to my surprise, the constable asked me to get the application in Hindi. So, I wrote the application in Hindi and gave it to him. Now here comes the indirect way of asking for bribe.

Constable: I need Affidavit and get it attested in court.

Me: I don't think that we need an Affidavit and get it notary attested prior of filing an F.I.R, what do mean, explain me.

Constable: No, this is a standard procedure else I can't accept your application. BTW, if you want to save time, I can do it for you and it'll cost you Rs. 50 only.

After arguing a bit, I went to the inspector and he said, he's right, do as he's saying. He's been following this procedure since last 10 years. Lol, this means he's asking for bribes since last 10 years, this was amazing. At last, I had no choice rather to do some bargaining and gave him Rs. 25 which I think was the cheapest bribe settlement while lodging a FIR afaik.
