Forced to pay Rs.500/- for issuance of Transfer certificate

Reported on December 8, 2011 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #3176

12th class completion was extremely traumatic for my son and my family. any parent who has passed that stage will empathise. We were under utter confusion and in a anxious state of mind regarding the further studies. Under such circumstances, the school demanded from my son (as also all other students of class tenth) Rs.500/ for release of transfer certificate. We were literally blackmailed and felt threatened. I paid an amount of Rs.500/- as demanded by the criminal officials and got the transfer certificate. otherwise, my son's future would have been destroyed. I am very very very very angry at this situation and being taken advantage of. I would have and have gladly given many thousands of rupees for food to the poor and to old age homes, as charity. What rankles is not the amount, but, the brazen way in which the school extorts money. In future, I want this to happen: For issuance of transfer certificates: should be open: the school may charge an administrative amount, for which receipt should be issued and this money should go to a ``Improvement of amenities in rural schools fund''. I know that this will not happen and india is a hopeless basket case.
