Going through red traffic lights

I was waiting at traffic lights with them being on Red, howveer after switching to Green even though I was at the front of the queued traffic loads of bikes, scooters and ricksaws cam in front of me and this resulted in me driving through when the lights turned back to Red.
There was police presence there and they must of known what had happened, anyway after making me pull over he insisted on a bribe and just to get away I paid 100 rupees.
