I was stopped for legally CHANGING LANES more than 1/2 a mile before a bridge so that I could go over the bridge rather than under it. I was stopped and the cop demanded a fine of Rs 100 for changing lanes. He took the money and refused to give me a receipt - I was holding up traffic where he had stopped me and he told me to move my vehicle and didn't give me a receipt. I have just moved to Mumbai and my husband was out of town and I was not sure what to do so just left it at that, but he obviously wanted it as a bribe and not as a fine. I wish I had taken his id details down and had witnesses to the fact that I changed lanes way ahead of the bridge and did not cut anyone when doing so.
