To import renewable power generation equipment
- Customs, Excise and Service Tax
- Customs Check and Clearance
- Paid INR 3,700
I had imported two custom made bio-gas based power generators in my personal name. I have set up a bio gas based power generation plant at Hyderabad.
When the equipment reached at Chennai, my agent was made to run around in circles. The Commissioner had demanded pollution control certificate when this is a prototype and hence there was no way we could have provided the same.
The total sum of bribe that has been paid is Rs. 4700. This assumes significance as the cost of transportation from China to Chennai was only $30 (Rs1500) and the customs duty that had to be paid was Rs9254. Hence I was forced to pay a sum that is almost 50% of the duties that have to be paid.
The other aspect is legal bribe or the cost of unloading. While the cost of transportation was only $30, ensuring that the product comes out of the port I was forced to pay a sum of Rs. 8475(receipts issued). However, when you compare that a distance of over 20,000 KMS cost me only Rs 1500/-, it is digusting to note that a distance of 4 Kms cost me 8500. Almost six times.
No wonder we are not competitive in the global market.
