Kolkata customs on Airport sucks.

• Customs, Excise and Service Tax
• Customs Check and Clearance
• Paid INR 4,000

I had to pay USD 100 because I was carrying a cordless phone and they will not charge custom duty as phone had higher frequency range compared to what was mentioned in Telephone and Telegraph Act of stone age. They will not let me break and dump phone either. I talked to customs officer (some higher level guy) but no use. Finally I got tired of waiting and paid them what they were asking for.
I have stopped passing through Kolkata airport after that.
