The last bribe paid!
- Electricity and Power Supply
- New Connection for Houses
- Paid INR 500
Interestingly, the day had come when I had to go through the disgustful treachery of the Indian Government. I'm a native Indian who has worked abroad for quite sometime and decided to settle down in Bangalore a few months ago. So I renovated my old house, threw in a couple of dimes and got myself a neat penthouse. Now the penthouse needed electricity and it was then I had started my journey through hell. Tell me about it - With all the documents in place, money in the right envelopes, envelopes in the right pockets, I had to run here and there bribing every Tom, ********** and Harry. Finally after week two, everything fell into place with only one thing left to do - getting the actual meter and connection. So I strolled down to the EB office near my place and guess what - Mrs.Annoying was sitting right in front of me. Although I had all the documents in place, all the approvals acquired (through a lot of bribes), she refused to sign citing various extraneous reasons. Finally she said that without the signature of some XXX person, I would not get what I wanted. She never asked me for a bribe nor did I get the feeling she even wanted one. She was really ******* . She made me stand there while she ate her biscuits and munched on somebody's brains over the telephone. That ticked me off but I had no other choice but to walk out of the office. With a face full of disgust, as I crossed the front door, there was a man dressed in the usual khaki clothes as all EB personnel do. After a little small talk, to my astonishment, he said he'd get the job done for 500 bucks. The same form with the same signatures was stamped and my request was processed. And that was the last bribe I had to pay! (apart from the 10K I had used up to pay the higher officials)
