While entering UP on a Toyota Innova, on the way to a marriage, the municipal road block manned by a police man demanded money as Mayawati Tax, or else he would search through our baggage on the roof-rack. We live in the US and were traveling with 2 kids. Utter and pure harassment in the name of Mayawati, who is slated to be the next PM of India. ********** Ho! We were also told that Mayawati has circles inside UP and each circle is supposed to provide her with a fixed amount every month or so. If she can become the PM of India, then the future of the country is doomed. I would not hesitate to change my nationality if that were to happen. What a shame! Oh, we had all papers in order - the vehicle entry tax was paid and it was a rented vehicle.
