I had heard students had to bribe office staff regularly to get anything done, signatures, transcripts, attestations, verifications...anything. Otherwise it would take days and involve multiple visits to the office and interminable waiting. I needed a simple signature or two on certain certificates and was told very matter of factly that it would take a few days to get this done. There were deadlines approaching and seeing the desperation on my face, the lady I dealt with said very simply - "I can get it done, but I need a 'fee'." I had to fork over... I was taken aback, I felt angry, but there was either that or wait indefinitely. I didn't want to create a scene in case it affected the processing of the documents or any future interaction I would have with the office.
