No bribe for vehicle registration transfer

Reported on August 18, 2011 from Thane , Maharashtra  ι Report #4868

I had a Chennai registered vehicle that I brought to Thane. Been driving it for sometime here as it was a temp transfer. Then when the transfer became permanent I decided to transfer registration.

Got the NOC from Chennai. Then I approached Thane RTO. It took between me, my wife and my father-in-law a total of 15-20 trips to the RTO - every single time we show up they would ask for a different document. Bring me the Insurance copy in color, bring me a notarized stmt. that you are stating the truth etc. Wish they had a checklist with a checkbox right next to it for the complete documentation list.

Once all paperwork was done they asked me to wait and return after 45 days! I did. There was positive response from Chennai RTO confirming the NOC. I had 2 more visits to pay the final smart card fees. The smart card was dispatched by post in the next 4-5 days.

ALL IN ALL - it took so much of time and patience, luckily my previous project was over and we had the time to spare every now and then. I PAID NO BRIBE to get this done. Thane RTO had a lot of delaying tactics but in the end they never even hinted they need 'SOMETHING'. ANyway it's all over now and I am relieved!!
