We have applied for our parents passports in Guwahati office and its been more than 6 months that we haven't received the passports in hand. We personally had to visit the local police station to get the file moving and done all the required so that "police verification" stage is completed. Even after 2 months of the police verification been sent to Guwahati, there were no updated. Someone from our family had to regularly visit the passport office to get any update. We were finally on a urgent need for the passports as we had plans to travel. When we personally made 3-4 rounds of visits continuously to the passport office we met N number of agents who was asking for bribe starting @ Rs.5000 to get the passports ready. But, we were no ready to pay coz everything was in-place from our side and we didn't understand as to why the officer would ask shamelessly for money when they are getting paid to do the same job. Utmost shock was when the passport officer's driver asked for Rs.6000 and he promised to get the job done. WHO IS HE??? Just a mere driver, or personal secretary of the officer??? When we denied to pay him, he was threatening that he will see how we get our passports. WHAT an extent of corrpution !!! These kind of people are curse for the society and should be behind bars for life-long.
