Paid 200 bribe each for police verification

Today i had to visit electronic city police station along with my one friend for passport verification purpose.The inspector asked for Rs 500 as bribe each. After requesting that we are students and cant pay much he agreed for Rs 200 instead. It is really bad that bribe at this time is almost known to everybody but even then i couldn't do anything as I really needed passport so as to apply for internship in germany this month.
