Paid bribe at the marriage registrar office when they asked for it.
- Stamps and Registration
- Marriage Registration
- Paid INR 1,700
I had applied for the registration of my marriage on 27th January 2016 at the Krishnarajapuram, Bangalore registrar office. We had to fill in a few forms and sign on a few of them.
The officer helped us fill the forms and provided necessary guidance for the same. Although, the lady assisting him asked for "fees" on a calculator showing the number 1500.
Since we did not want any delays or issues with our marriage registration or the legal proceedings, we had paid the "fees" (later known bribe) of Rs. 1500 to the lady assisting the officer.
Furthermore, after the paperwork was completed, the other lady typing the content into the online marriage application portal asked for Rs 200 for her services to clearly type in the correct address, name, etc.
When I checked the actual fees for the marriage registration at the end of the whole process, I realised it was only Rs 45 for the entire process.
I request the authorities to investigate this matter and if there seems to be a reason that this kind of bribery is happening due to the low fees of a marriage registration, kindly increase the salary of the officers or even increase the actual paperwork fees so that they do not have to resort to such incidents.
After a month when I went back to receive my marriage registration certificate with the two witnesses, the lady assisting the officer asked for another Rs. 500 as "fees" for giving us the registration certificate after making us wait unnecessarily for an hour and a half so that we request them to make the process faster and they ask for a bribe for "speedy services".
