I happened to get a Central govt. job recently. Since there are many document verification procedures to be done before appointment, i had to visit my area police station in the month of April, 2014 for getting a character certificate which further had to be attested by ADM. My work was done after a hectic wait of 3 hrs. At the end, one of the police constables (who did our work somehow), wished me good luck for the job i got. My father asked him for the "formalities" to which his reply, i felt, was wicked. He said, " i don't want this girl to be a corrupt govt. official, so please don't offer me money. Rather give us sweets, cold drinks and fruits". He even told us the quantity that has to be brought to whole of his colleagues and this had cost us around 500/-. I was taken aback by the kind of "transformation of bribe" that indian police has resorted to.
I feel ashamed that in the future too i have to take the help of the constable whom we met, as i am appearing for other exams and hope to get a better job. the very thought of starting my new job disappoints me and puts my morale down.
