Paid bribe to police officer for passport verification

- Police Verification for Passport
- Paid INR 300
I had applied for renewal of my passport at Bangalore. In spite of having all the necessar documents with me and having followed all the procedure to the letter, at the time of police verification the 'Passport Writer' at 'HAL' police station took me aside into a corner room and solicited a bribe of 500 rupees. He agreed on 300 rupees on 13/07/2015 at arounr 10 am in the morning. The police did not visit my residence for verification as is proceedure and said it's not required since I paid them. Otherwise, they said they would visit rented homes of bachelores and reject the passport request, which in a way was a warning in my opionin.
It is extremely frustrating to be treated like a foreigner in your own country because you belong to a different state. In my case, I'm from Mumbai so all my documents had my permanent address of Mumabi. This was used as an excuse to question my nationalily by the cops at one point.
