My passport renewal was pending from past one month. The passport ********** kendra website shows status as police verification pending. I applied for passport renewal on 26/4/2011 without any agent and all. I got online token and all went fine. Till 28/05/2011 no verification happened. I went to X Police Station I was told my residence is in Y Jurisdiction. I visited Y Police Station and found that my file has not come there and they advised me to visit Z Police Station. At Z police station people are forced to bribe infront of police inspector with smile on the face. And inspector says sir we are here to help you. Felt like slapping him. I was told my file would have gone to wrong police station and I need to pay some "service tax" to constable to get my verification done. I gave Rs.700 to constable along with my 2 passport size pics, address proof, copy of application acknowledgment, copy of passport. Its been 2 weeks still verification status remains the same. On calling up again and again the constable says he hasn't sent the verification report as he is on leave. God knows if he wants more from me but I need the passport on urgent basis. I'm planning to file an RTI as RPO comes under RTI act. All in all its been a pathetic experience and feel ashamed to be an Indian. I hope procedure is made more accountable.
