Pay 25000 and get entry into S H Jondhale Polytechnic

Reported on July 21, 2011 from Thane , Maharashtra  ι Report #6377

I did my schooling from an English medium convent school (in Greater Bombay) and scored about 72% in my Xth std back in 2000. That time engineering was rage. I and my family was not much aware of the process to get into engineering. Some of my relatives suggested that I can go do a 3yr diploma and then I can get into a degree college with much ease. For the same, we started vising all the colleges for admission schedules and stuff. We also visited S. H. Jondhale Polytechnic in Dombivli West. The principal exclusively attended each visiting parent and child. She was too confident to say that, "this year the admissions are filling up fast every where and its better to secure admission before other colleges put out their selection lists". Many parents (possibly in their late 50's) get tensed easily and not aware of the process, give a worried look. The principal goes ahead and gives an offer, "give me 25k and I will secure your child's admission to my college without any formalities". Most parents try to think but here that was not the case. While we move out sad, the principal said, "We have only 10 seats left in the stream of engineering class your child wishes to join". I asked my Dad to not to worry and leave it to fate. On other day, my cousin staying in Dombivli secured his admission to the same college by bribing 25000 rupees to the principal. As his father spoke to my father, there was only one outcome. My father, without much options left on his mind went ahead and secured my admission even though it was tough for him to arrange money at that point in time. Apart from that we had fees of about another 20000 rupees.

After I joined college, I discovered that the whole class comprised of students whose parents paid bribes. There was not a single candidate in my class who didn't pay any bribe. Moreover, the college outed a list of students selected for each branch as per the applications. The list consisted all our names who paid bribes.

For the outside world it was just a case that they didn't make it. A simple calculation takes us to the amount involved in this crime.
> Branches - Total 6 - Electronics, Civil, Mechanical, Computers, IT & Digital
> Intake - 60 per branch
> Avg Donation - 20k
>>> Total = 6 * 60 * 20000 = 72 lacs
