Pay Rs.20000 now or forget the registration
- Commercial Tax, Sales Tax, VAT
- VAT Registration
- Paid INR 20,000
The point here is, we register for VAT for paying taxes. We derive absolutely no benefit out of it. I repeat "ABSOLUTELY BO BENEFIT".
And still, we are forced to pay a bribe and register for it. Otherwise the consequences would be that the VAT officials would close down your enterprise claiming for it to have not registered and put a hefty penalty for it.
Why isn't the process more automated? Why do we have to deal with such corrupt people? Why is there no action taken towards threats made by such bribe hungry greedy mammals? How is their job more secure than that of an employee at any given firm.
Such powers need to be dealt with, with the right responsibilities. It should be a VAT officials duty to ensure the process gets easier for anyone who wants to register. But no. That's not what happens here. They can complicate it by n number of reasons. Ex. Disclaiming receipt of registration documents, although an acknowledged copy is present with the registrant. Claiming that the process will take a long time, and the chances for VAT officials become more severe as they know you haven't registered yet and can track you down via the documents submitted, pay the bribe to ensure faster registration. Asking us to wait while they have a coffee break which lasts for upto 4-8 hours.
Claiming the officer is on leave although he walked past our eye.

There is not one honest officer there. The question should be framed the other way round.
