This evening, my friend and i were enjoying a cup of tea and a smoke at a local bakery. suddenly this hoysala jeep arrived at the scene and a cop stepped out. he began throwing accusation after accusation at us. he accused us of causing a nuisance in the area, he accused us of eve teasing and he even accused my friend of sitting indecently on his bike. we were simply standing there and talking to each other, nothing more. there wasn't even a single girl/woman present in our midst. the cop also went up to the extent of hitting my friend on his neck.
he took away my friends bike keys and asked for his licence and the bike's papers which were promptly presented to him. he asked us for 300 rupees each, but we told him we did not have any. after alot of abuse, the cop took 100 rupees from us and did not register any complaint or make any note of the money he had collected.
is this what bangalore has come to? where one cannot stand peacefully in his/her own neighborhood without being troubled by the cops?
