Police verification bribe

Reported on March 12, 2011 from Shimoga , Karnataka  ι Report #26609

Police came to our house for passport verification. They wanted to talk to our neighbors. One of our neighbors was a lawyer. The police guy was quiet until the lawyer was there. Once the lawyer left, the police started saying, "sir, we have to do this, do that, we have to go here, go there for processing your passport. Give us something if you don't want delays". My father tried to convince him it was their duty to do it, but they wouldn't budge. Finally, he gave 100 Rs, the police said that was not enough. He made it 200, that was also not enough. Finally, after paying 500Rs, they accepted the money and went. Finally, the passport was received--about eight months after applying!
