Police verification for passport application

Reported on August 31, 2019 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #212698

I was asked for a Rs.500 bribe to complete the police verification for my passport application at the Byappanahalli police station. This happened on July 20th Saturday, @1pm. I eventually paid only Rs.300 as that was all the cash I had at the time. I also met another person at the police station for the same purpose who had confirmed he had paid a bribe of Rs.500. The Policeman taking the bribe was Head constable Revanna.

The modus operandi was to call you to the police station and ask for many documents to prove your address and harrass you by making you come repeated times forcing you to pay up.

Personally, I regret not taking a stand. Although the passport office has made a lot of effort to streamline the process, unfortunately at the last mile, the corruption is still rampant.
