Rajdhani Express - Travel Without ID proof for Rs.3000.

Reported on August 16, 2012 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #1079

August 14 (eve of India's Independance day) , the perfect day to DEMAND a bribe, thought the TT of Trivandrum Rajdhani Express[Train:12432] from H.Nizamuddhin to Ernakulam. Unfortunately for me, I was the victim, or more correctly 'FORCEFULLY victimised'. the TT demanded that I pay Rs.3000 to him, for which i would recieve no reciept, or pay Rs.5000 as fine(i still do not know why ). As per rule, at the time of boarding a train, the passenger should have ID proof if the ticket is an E-ticket. Since I am a student , and has only turned 18 a fortnight ago, the only identification with me was my CBSE class 10 pass certificate (which has photograph), I showed it to the TT. He refused to accept it. I had been to Delhi for an embassy visa interview and my passport had been depositted there for issuing of visa. I had with me a photocopy of my passport, which i also presented as proof of my ID. This too did not make any difference to him. If I paid Rs.3000 to the TT, he would mark me as 'checked' in his log, and no more trouble would come my way. The TT would not collect the money directly; he would send his most trusted attender to collect the bribe.(Too clever ) .
Corruption has become such a part of people's lives, that its as easy as breathing. No guity conscious. No remorse. India has sunken to deapths, from which i believe we cannot escape in the near future. Corruption has entered into every single aspect of our daily life. From the PDS ration shops to high ranking police officers, a bribe is a common event; a white lie. When will this end?
