For Setting a Grocery shop

Reported on September 25, 2010 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #30679

HI , I hail from Chennai and I am an IT Consultant. Recently myself along with my friends had decided to setup a grocery store and wanted to venture into the retail Industry. Towards setting the same we where informed that we had to obtain a trade license to run our set up . When we approached our auditor they had mentioned that we had to pay a bribe of 8-10k for obtaining the same . I was very surprised since I wanted to do a legitimate business from which I pay taxes to the government and also involve employment . The people from the trade license office came and visited my shop and asked me to come to their office the next day. When I approached them I was asked to produce a set of documents . After going through all the documents the person incharge was showing signs of uncomfortness . I then understood that he was expecting the bribe from me. I called and consulted a senior person on an advice as I was in no mood of paying a single penny to do a very clean and neat business . I was then told that if I refused I would be made to run from pillar to post and it would take me 2 months to get my lisence . Finally I had to budge down to pressure and I told the incharge that the needful would be done . I could see the glow in his shameful face . I felt very shameful do give him the money but at the same time I knew it was a difficult journey to move ahead if I wanted to do it clean . I wish this doesnt happen on the longer run
