Soft threat for being non Marathi

Reported on November 1, 2016 from Pune , Maharashtra  ι Report #132062

The officer incharge spoke in fluent English to upfront ask for "anything" that I could offer him so that he would ensure that my passport is not held up for further verification. This was prior to him asking - If I was not a Maharashtrian & what was my job? As soon as I told him I wasnt a Maharashtrian & that I worked in IT firm as a manager, he switched to English & asked for "anything" that I could give him.
The verification process took me 4 visits. Despite being just a renewal of PP, the police station required me to submit all possible documents which even PP office did not ask for. First 3 visit was with people queueing up right up to the desk of the officers, however for the "Bribe visit" the officers ensured that the queue waited outside the door & only 1 person was allowed to visit the bada sahab. This allowed him to ask/beg/demand/threaten as you may call it, for the bribe.
People in queue outside while waiting were discussing on the same topic that no matter what happens you will have to pay 500 to 2000 rupees depending on who you are to the officers if you do not want further harassment.
