Strategic location to extract bribes

Reported on March 4, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #28001

The Baiyappanhalli road between Old Madras Road and Level crossing is an area where the conniving traffic police come and park there interceptor vehicles, the road has a downward sloppy terrain and later there is a steep upward climb and the traffic police hide themselves near the valley of this and catch every passerby claiming over speeding violation. The speed limit is supposedly 45-50kmph, and i happened to be recorded at 55kmph(with not another vehicle in sight) and was pulled over to the side, to pay the supposed "fine". when i told them to register the complaint and send the notification to my home address (which is what the traffic police generally do) i was told that, this is not possible in this case, and my vehicle keys were forcefully removed from me. and i had to go to a nearby ATM with a policeman on his bike and get the "fine" amount which was said to be only 100rs. later on paying it to the guy, he didn't give me any receipt. when i insisted on receipt, he started asking for bullying me and harassing me right there on the road, in public, and he started asking for documents which are not even required in the context. when i did produce a copy of the document(insurance of vehicle), he said this is not good enough i need the ORIGINAL. WTF! really.
So basically after a long and arduous fight, i ended up paying the "fine"(read BRIBE), and getting back home late by an hour.
This is what you get when you try to get some justice from a traffic policeman in Bangalore. I deeply regret to say that I have completely lost the respect I had for policemen.

So guys, if you use the road i mentioned, please be cautious, these greedy money snatchers are generally parked right at the end of the downward slope, and generally visit that spot for 2-3days consecutively, with a gap of about 2 weeks between visits.
