A radical alternative to screen corruption?
Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare and his team have yet again made a strategic change in direction to deal with the unresponsive government. Team Anna’s call to end the ten day fast to form a new political party that would boost the revolution against corruption received mixed responses from all over the country.
The fast was broken by team Anna member Mr Arvind Kejriwal stating that they would launch a party wherein people will pro-actively decide the future of the country. This stand by the team was open to suggestions at India againstcorruption.2010@gmail.com.
I Paid a Bribe conducted a poll asking what they thought about Anna Hazare and his team’s announcement to enter politics. 45 % of our readers believe that this is a logical step to fight against corruption. 36 % felt that team Anna were forced to do so because of the unresponsive government. A small segment (9%) of readers say that this move by Anna is a bait and switch on the people. Another 11 % are of the opinion that it was a dignified way to end the fast.
A much welcomed response by some people, this move by Anna and his team has also bagged a few cynical and critical responses as well. Critics point out that this new move of starting a new party will actually kill the influence that it had in the past. They also see high risk in such a move as they opine that many bigger parties with much experience will dissolve Anna’s team in no time. .
The parties’ existence lies in the hands of people. The country will have to wait and witness the change that Anna and his team have vowed to people.
