Charging more than the minimum retail price (MRP) has become a common practice these days, but these illegal “petty” charges profit a shop keeper in thousands of rupees every day.
Charging more than the minimum retail price (MRP) has become a common practice these days. People too do not voice their grievance as the charges are “petty”. But you may be surprised to know that these illegal “petty” charges profit a shop keeper in thousands of rupees every day.
In one such incident, Bengaluru resident Praveen P Joshi and his friend visited the Nandini Milk Parlour situated 100 meters from 4th block, Jayanagar bus stop. They ordered two flavoured Nandini milk sachets and when they paid the money printed on the pack, the shopkeeper asked them to pay Rs 2 extra per sachet. Surprised, they enquired if there was a price hike to which the shopkeeper said that Rs 2 had to be paid as “cooling charges”.
Mr. Joshi, was outraged by this illegality and posted a complaint on IPaidABribe website. He demanded stringent action to be taken against people who cheat the common man by charging more than the MRP.
Speaking to Team IPAB, Joshi says, “Though the amount is negligible, the irregular practices of the Nandini Milk Parlour owner cannot be ignored.”
The grievance was immediately brought to the attention of Dr. Malati Das (IAS Retd) Former Chief Secretary, Govt of Karnataka and who is ab Advisor, IPaidABribe. She forwarded the complaint to Karnataka Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd, Bengaluru. The Karnataka Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd issued a notice to the owner of the Nandini franchise near Jayanagar 4th Block, on 30/3/2017, “Selling Nandini Products more than the MRP violates the contract. Henceforth please sell all products at MRP and consider this as a warning.”
