Corruption Calls the Shots

Posted on December 31, 2012

Earlier, I had decided not to pay a single penny assuming the concerned official wont expect a bribe as this license was of a national Level shooter. After 5-6 visits to commissioner office, numerous phone calls, I had to commit over telephone to the concerned person. The cost - Rs.100. It was much lesser than the time spent and fuel burnt in visiting the commissioner's office

I am very conscious in getting genuine fire fighting instruments of ISI quality but unless you pay a bribe to the fire department personell, you won’t get an NOC… But no payment of bribe means you cannot run your hotel.

It’s quite ironical the way things work in our country. Lawbreakers walk around scot-free while those who are law abiding suffer at the hands of the corrupt. Take these reports for instance – In one case the respondent, as a precautionary measure, wants to renew the licence of a pistol that belongs to his sister who is national athlete. While in the other case, a big fat bribe can guarantee an NOC to people without even procuring the fire safety equipment.

If money could buy a way around everything, don’t you think there’ll be a time when laws and rules that govern us will become void and useless? Do you foresee an absolute state of anarchy once this happens, or has this already set in place?
