'High' Risk In Illegally Built Structures

Posted on March 13, 2013

“The town planning act is only meant for commoners, the rich and powerful are always having no law at all, as they can buy things out in this corrupt country of ours… The Builder has the power to shake things, even the neighbours being politicians are scared to complain for two reasons, as obviously there is no one to receive the complaint or act upon it or other, the clout of this north Indian Builder has roots in the corrupt foundations of our great Nation.”

Multi-storey buildings mushrooming in and around developing cities are thought of as a normal process of a city’s infrastructural growth. But how many such structures are built through legitimate means? Having almost all top authorities in their pocket, builders flout basic construction rules, ignoring the fundamental norms that are expected to be followed to ensure complete safety to those in and around the building. The next time you spot a newly constructed high rise building in your neighbourhood, you may want to find whether or not it has been built in accordance with the required safety measures and building norms.
