Nelson Mandela dies at 95

South Africa's anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela died at his Johannesburg home on Thursday. He was 95.

The man who was an iconic global symbol of struggle against injustice and of racial reconciliation, was frail and ailing for nearly a year. His crusade against apartheid and racial segregation lead to the vision of South Africa as a rainbow nation where everyone was treated equally regardless of the colour of their skin. The African National Congress's (ANC) slogan of 1994 - A better life for all - was fulfilled only for a minute portion of the black elite. Growing corruption, lawlessness and lack of employment prospects continue to be a challenge in the Rainbow Nation.
